The legend of the Cenzontle (Mockingbird) tells
us a beautiful story about a beautiful young
girl who was captured for her voice and beauty,
her hand was promised to Xomecatzin (the lord
of the Willow) who offered her all kinds of
riches during her imprisonment.
Xomecatzin could not understand the reasons why
his beautiful wife did not emit any word or
melodious sound. The legend tells us that, when
that young girl died of sadness, not being
able to be free, Xomcatzin heard the song of
a small bird. The lord of the Willow baptized
the bird at that moment with the name of his
late wife, Cenzontle.
Cenzontle was reborn to sing and live in freedom.
Like Cenzontle, women have been reborn and in
the process have found their voice, a voice
that echoes in the ears of those who seek
to silence them.
Fly and sing out loud!
